The right tablecloth can add the perfect touch to your dining room and bring out the best in both your decor and your table setting. You can find table linens in many different fabrics, colors and patterns. These decorative cloths not only protect your table, but they are the foundation layer for your table settings and ultimately your culinary creations. While some tablecloths are extremely elegant and very expensive, you can also find tablecloths that are exquisite and luxurious without busting the bank. Keep your table dimensions with you when you are shopping, and if you have an expandable table, keep handy the dimensions of each different size of the table when leaves are added. Choose a Style
When you are selecting a tablecloth, keep in mind that the tablecloth is the foundation for everything else that you will place on the table. It also complements the overall color and style of your dining room. One thing that you may want to consider as you are looking for tablecloths is what your chinaware looks like. For example, if your china pattern is a print or design, then you may want to choose a solid color tablecloth. Use the color of your tablecloth to pick up one of the colors from your china pattern, to really create a stunning effect. If you use your dining room for family meals as well as entertaining, you will want to have a collection of everyday tablecloths as well as a collection of more formal tablecloths. Consider Vintage
If you do not have a lot of money to spend on your dining room tablecloths, you can look for second hand linens at thrift stores. You can frequently find very elegant, vintage tablecloths that add the perfect formal touch to any meal. Keep your table measurements handy as you go in search of the tablecloths at estate sales, garage sales and online auction sites. Not only are these tablecloths very affordable, but you can frequently find a tablecloth with matching napkins for a little added bonus. If you find a sumptuous vintage table covering that does not have any matching napkins, do not worry, because you can find vintage napkins available separately that will complement your new found tablecloth perfectly. You do not have to limit your search for exquisite tablecloths to vintage solutions, because you can also shop at discount stores as well. So if you do not have a large budget for purchasing table linens, watch for your local store’s sales. This way you can afford several styles and colors, which will allow you to switch out the look of your dining room pretty much at will. Whether you are creating a new holiday look on your table or simply creating a new look for a family dinner, you will be happy to have a selection of colors and styles of tablecloths from which to choose. Another option that you will probably want to leave on the table is to sew your own tablecloth if you come across a great deal on some fabric that you love.

Too bad that picture wasn't in color. It would have been more descriptive. As for that picture -- I've lived in apartments that were smaller than that dining room... A tad bit out of my price range at the current time. But your advice is good.

You are triggering my imagination. The only time I see our dining room table is Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I can't imagine what it must be like to use it for eating year round. Most of time is it piled with paperback books grouped together getting ready to be put on eBay. My wife is getting rid of the books from her used book store during this recession.
