Shower Door Styles: Consider Bi-Fold Doors
By Jessica Stockton
As you are cleaning your shower curtain, you may consider replacing it with a shiny, glass shower door. Before you buy, you may want to consider the advantages of each kind and then determine which one will fit into your space the best. If you have a small bathroom, you will want to choose a shower door that saves space, and probably the bi-fold door is going to be your best choice. It comes in several different sizes, frames and materials, and it works like a sliding door combined with a swinging door. Door Types If floor space is at a premium in your bathroom, one of the good choices for a shower door is a sliding shower door. This type of door is also called a bypass door. Since this door simply slides back and forth it does not impact floor space in the bathroom at all. These doors are very easy to clean; however they are housed in a frame and they roll on a track. It can be a challenge to keep the track clean and in working order. If you have ample floor space in your bathroom, then you may want to consider a swinging door, which is hinged, or a pivot door which swings on a pivot. Each of these doors closes with a magnetic catch and the shower door opens outwardly. Bi-fold doors Probably the most economical shower doors when it comes to space are bi-fold shower doors. They are designed with a center fold in them so that the panels can be folded like an accordion, which allows them to function in even the tiniest of spaces. Like the sliding doors, though, the bi-fold door slides along a track, and while the doors are easy to clean, the track can be problematic. So you do want to be diligent about keeping dirt and debris out of the track area so that the wheels do not wear out prematurely. If the track does become obstructed, it is easy enough to clean it out, and if the wheels become worn, they are easy to replace. Bi-fold doors are one of the least expensive shower door options, which makes them work in any budget. There are a variety of sizes and styles available in the bi-fold shower door, and they can be custom ordered as well. Another neat feature about bi-fold doors is that they can have a frame or have no frame at all. If you should choose a frame, they are available in white, chrome or silver, and the glass in the doors can be clear, tinted or frosted. The bi-fold door is practical, uses very little space and is very budget friendly. Of all of the types of shower doors, the bi-fold door is one of the best all around choices.
