How to Transform a Bedroom with a Garden Theme
By Jessica Stockton
The bedroom is probably one of the most important rooms in the home. It is an escape or refuge from all the stress of everyday activities. A bedroom should have calming effect; that is why it is important to design a bedroom that you will love and enjoy. A bedroom’s overall design can be anything from fun and romantic to cozy and inviting. To create a cohesive design in your bedroom, choose a specific theme to guide your decorative choices. One way to transform your bedroom into a refuge is to have a garden theme. A garden theme can create a relaxing and calming effect. At the same time, with the right accessories and furniture, it can also be inviting and cozy. To transform your bedroom with an inviting garden, select a bed that suggests airiness. You can choose an ornate brass bed or a natural fiber headboard of wicker or bamboo. This will bring in an element of nature. A bed made from wrought iron is another wonderful choice, suggesting wrought iron gates and fences found in the garden. Adding floral wall art is another way to drastically change the look and feel of your bedroom. A painting of flowers, plants or fields is a great way of bringing the outdoors in. If your tastes are more modern than traditional, you may also want add leaf metal wall art. It goes with the garden theme but adds a contemporary vibe and provides a different dimension to your garden design. Virtually any style of furniture will work, from wood to wicker; your choice depends on whether you are seeking a traditional, contemporary, country or casual feel. To invite in more natural light and breeze, change heavy draperies to light and cool colored curtains. You can use gauzy sheer materials or curtains with floral or garden motif that coordinates with the bedding. Subtle hints like simple floral designs on bed linens can go a long way. For side tables or night stands, you can re-purpose a wicker basket or table. Place a glass on top of the wicker basket transforming it into a nightstand. A favorite table or nightstand can also be transformed just by applying fresh coat of paint. Color choices for a garden theme bedroom should be on the light and cool tones. These colors include blue, yellow, pink and green. Bold colors like orange, red and violet can added as accent colors. One key element in completing any look is the use of home accessories. A vase of fresh flowers or potted plants bring a live dimension to the room. Add whimsy with a watering filled with a tumbling arrangement of faux flowers and vines.
