How to Decorate Your Sun Room on a Budget

If you have a sun room, then it is probably the most frequently visited part of the house. Designed to stay cool during the summer months and reasonably warm during winter, it is a year-round porch where friends and family members can enjoy relaxed conversations or listen to music while viewing the backyard garden in relative comfort. Despite its already cheerful atmosphere, you can liven up the sun room even more without straining your budget. The following tips will show you how: • Paint it pretty. As part of the interior design, paint gives you the greatest visual impact for the least cost. You can use bright or bold colors to add drama to your room, knowing that you can change them as often as you want. To avoid monotony, it is best to paint your walls using a combination of colors in shades of the same hue. • Make trimmings work for you. Having bright pillows or throws draws attention away from furniture or objects that don’t fit in, and they also help brighten up the room. If you have a dull old sofa, for example, throw pillows can make it look chic while providing added comfort. Use pillows of different sizes and shapes including some oversized floor cushions to create an informal setting. Likewise, you can place throw rugs in strategic locations around the room to emphasize some areas and even to hide carpet stains. • Hang some art. Although mostly composed of glass panels, a sun room’s wall usually has enough space for beautiful wall art. To avoid overspending on decorations, buy some discount wall decor online or from a thrift store. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to find iron wall art sold at affordable prices, or even contemporary paintings being displayed at garage sales. Just keep your eyes open and grab a few inexpensive art pieces at every opportunity. • Light up your treasures. Because of their structure, sun rooms make the most of natural light during the day; therefore, artificial lighting is rarely needed. However, colorful lighting can be used to focus attention on certain areas, especially at night. By itself, lighting can serve as a powerful design element and should be carefully considered. Three-way bulbs, in particular, give adequate light for reading and working as well as a cozy ambiance. • Accessorize to your heart’s desire. Candles create a warm look and serve as icing on the cake to a room’s design, while curtains are useful for extremely hot days and can be used to beautify the room even further. Most importantly, you can save money while adding a personal touch to your sun room by hanging framed photos of your loved ones amid your discount wall decor, using inexpensive frames embellished with beach glass, seashells or buttons. Because the sun room gets the greatest foot traffic in your home, it makes sense to give it the best decorations you can afford.
