How to Decorate a Tropical Room
By Jessica Stockton
A lot of people just love the feel and look of a tropical atmosphere. It reminds them of a great vacation or place that they have visited. Also, a tropical atmosphere gives them a feel of comfort and relaxation. With today’s fast-paced world, it is no wonder that more and more people seek the refuge of a tropical place. However, there is no need to travel to another country to get that tropical feel. Once can bring the tropics into their home with a few simple ideas or even adding a tropical wall art. Just like any other room, it is important to create a focal point. A focal point brings all elements and design of a room together. It is important to consider size when choosing a focal point. Choosing one that is too small will be drowned out by the wall you intent to hang it to. Choosing one that is too big will overwhelm the space or the wall. When choosing a tropical wall focal point, choose one that draws you or people looking at it. A focal point should be interesting at the same time brings the design of the room together. You may choose a tropical painting with splashes of color. If the focal point is the fireplace, a simple colorful sombrero is great. A great way to bring in the tropical smell is using tropical scented candles such as pineapple, jasmine, vanilla, etc. If you have a large wall space to decorate, you can use a large piece of art that can be used as a focal point. A large wall of art can also bring drama to a room particularly a large wall art. To bring in the tropical feel, choose a large wall art with dimension like a metal wall art that has palm trees, tropical foliages or even birds like parrots or cockatoos. Tropical accents are also great in setting the a tropical feel and mood in your room. Consider using metal butterfly or bird sculptures. These will accentuate the tropical feel of the space at the same time adds a three-dimensional design to your wall. You can also display seashells, turtles or starfishes around the space to have a “beachy” feel. Placing these items randomly around the space will definitely enhance the tropical feel or atmosphere that you want. Placing a glass bowl with lots of colorful stones or rocks is also another way of bringing in the beach to your space. You can make it as a centerpiece to a coffee table or place it on side tables. You may even use large stone as book ends which is perfect for a night stand. Seashells are also great as a coffee table display. It is a conversation piece as well as an interesting table display in your space. Sand is also another tropical accent that you can use. It is very inexpensive and definitely speaks tropical. Place a sand in a glass bowl and put some small seashells inside. You can use this as a decorative item or use it as a candle holder. Decorating a room with a tropical atmosphere or feel is a fun and easy do-it-yourself project. |
