Fresh Cut Flowers Fill a Room with Fragrance
By Brenda Reeves
Adding fresh cut flowers to your home is a great way to add a little color and life to your room designs. If you have a garden, you can cut and display your own flowers. If you do not have a garden, then you can purchase batches of flowers at the grocers pretty affordably for your fresh cut flower display. Bedroom Flowers Adding a beautiful vase of fresh cut flowers to the bedroom is a great way to bring romance to the design. Not only are the flowers beautiful, but they bring with them an organic and colorful aesthetic. While you can create a large, dramatic display of flowers as a centerpiece for your room, you may prefer adding smaller vases of flowers throughout the room. You may also like to group several smaller vases together to create an interesting floral display. For larger displays, place a plastic liner in a basket, create your flower arrangement in the basket, and place the basket on your bed for a touch of romance. You may even enjoy placing pocket vases around the walls to fill with freshly cut flowers on a daily basis. Dining Room Flowers The dining room is a natural place for a beautiful, large floral centerpiece. You can add oversized, dramatic arrangements, groupings of smaller displays or a single vertical display to add interest to your dining room table. However, when you sit down to eat with your guests, large flower arrangements should be removed from the dining table. If your flower displays are low enough for your guests to see each other over the flowers, then you can leave them on the table while dining. However, if your flower displays are blocking your guests’ view of each other, then you need to remove the flowers during your meal so that you guests may converse. Kitchen Flowers Fresh flowers add to the bounty of the kitchen. With bowls of fresh fruits and vegetables already being displayed in the kitchen, adding fresh flowers to the mix simply rounds out the entire kitchen display. They add a cheerful touch to the countertop, and they add a pleasant fragrance to the air. You can create interesting displays by using elements from the kitchen like a teacup, pitcher or rustic vase. Even an old, glass canning jar can make a beautiful vase for your freshly cut flowers. Displaying Fresh Cut Flowers When you are in search of flowers for your displays, you can always order a flower arrangement form a florist, however, this choice would become cost prohibitive if you were to display flower arrangements in your home frequently. You can also find flowers at the grocery store in bulk bouquets, which are very affordable. You may also have access to wildflowers, or you may have your own cutting garden. Regardless of the origin of your flowers, you want to select flowers with partially closed buds. When you are cutting the flowers, put them in a bucket of tepid water immediately, and this will help to keep them fresh. Then when you are arranging the flowers, cut the stems under running water and place them into a vase of water. If you remember to change the water in the vase every few days, and keep your bouquet out of direct sunlight, your display will last for up to two weeks.
