Decorating with Oversized Metal Wall Art

By Jessica Stockton

When searching for wall art that will add massive impact to an expansive wall, opt for oversize metal art. While ubiquitous metal wall art is readily available in retail stores, it is generally mass produced and unimpressive both in size, quality and visual effect. Instead of decorating with the same metal art as everyone else, expand your horizons and shop online to discover a nearly unlimited array of large wall decor in every style. Oversize wall art creates an instant dramatic focal point, transforming a bare wall with texture, color and dimension in a big way.

A Perfect Match: Oversize Metal Wall Art & Cathedral Ceilings

A room with soaring cathedral ceilings provides a perfectly scaled backdrop for oversize metal wall art. In a room with cathedral ceilings the typical rule of placing wall art just above eye level does not apply because the open expanse and height of the wall work on a larger scale, drawing your attention up high into the space. Place oversize metal art wherever a focal point is needed – over a sectional couch, above a fireplace or along any wide or vertical expanse of wall. Place it at average ceiling height to draw the eyes upward, creating a sense of grandeur.

Highlight Metal Art with Light

Get the most impact from oversize metal art by lighting it properly. Lighting will enhance the appearance of oversize metal wall art, adding depth to detail and illumination to color. If oversize metal wall art will be placed near a source of natural light, choose a piece that is embellished with color for a striking effect. To bring out details after dark, add track lights or recessed pot lights that can be directed as desired. Up lighting from sconces set below the metal wall art will also bring out details and cast unusual shadowing that might be otherwise missed.

Accenting Vertical Dining Room Spaces

A bare dining room wall with strong vertical orientation can be a conundrum when it comes to decorating. Grouping smaller items on the wall will often lack impact because smaller items do not effectively fill the space in a way that is complementary to the shape of the wall. Instead of choosing a mismatched bunch of small incoherent wall accents, choose one large vertically dominant piece of oversize metal wall art to add instant impact to the space without the need of further embellishment.

Using Oversize Metal Decor in the Master Bedroom

Metal wall décor that mimics patterns and colors in the master bedroom will be an excellent choice to fill a bare wall. Choose a style that complements the style and mood of the room and let it stand alone above a console or reclining couch. Use an oversize metal wall décor in lieu of a headboard and bring an exciting three-dimensional aspect to the space above the bed. Shapes, colors and patterns in the metal wall art can be repeated in bedding, throw pillows, window treatments, chair cushions and fabrics, and area rugs.
