Decorating Magic All Done with Lights and Mirrors

Lights and mirrors are not just for magic shows, or are they? They can work real magic when you are decorating your home. Illusion of Space
When you are designing spaces in your home, mirrors can help to brighten a room. You can use a large mirror in a small room to make it seem larger by increasing its visual space. When a room is drab and dim, you can place a mirror in it to help reflect light throughout the space and instantly brighten it up. Dramatic Effects
You can also create a lot of drama in a room using a mirror. If you fill a space with a single, large mirror, you can create a focal point in the room as well as create a vast amount of visual space in the room. You can use a large mirror to balance the windows in a room as well. For example, if you have a window on one wall, you can place a large mirror on the opposite wall flanked by curtains that match your window and accomplish a couple of things. First, by hanging the mirror opposite of the window, you reflect natural light back into the space, and second, you give the room symmetry by balancing the window with a mirror and curtains. Lastly, you reflect the room back onto itself making it appear visually larger than it actually is. Focal Point
To create a focal point in a room, you can hang a beautiful mirror or grouping of mirrors on a bold, painted wall. The bold color will command the eye’s attention, and the mirror will brighten the space. This combination creates a stunning focal point. Lighting Options
How you light a room also determines how the decor in a room looks. You can create different effects in a room depending on the different type of lighting that you employ in the room. You can use all over lighting with pocket lights in the ceiling, or you can use chandeliers for dramatic lighting. You can add a soft, warm glow to a room with wall sconces and lamps. You can use lighting to either enhance the design of a room or detract from it, so pay attention to what you have for lighting as you are updating the look of your space. Ambient Lighting
Ambient lighting is a lovely way to add warmth to a room. Usually you accomplish this type of lighting with lamps, either floor or table, or lighting fixtures mounted on the wall. As you are choosing the lamps that you want to include in your room, consider how they fit your decor as well as the kind of light they emit. Lighting can also create a focal point in your room. For example, by spotlighting a piece of artwork in your room, you can direct all attention to that portion of the space.
Lights and mirrors can definitely change the look of a space, and when used in combination they can certainly work magic for a room. So as you are putting together your next room design, consider using a little magic in your plan.
