Crystal Dreams in a Bedroom

By Jessica Stockton

Adding crystal to any space brings with it an instant elegance. Forming rainbow prisms on the wall as it plays and refracts the sunlight, using crystal in your decorating scheme is a great way to brighten any room. And crystal is not just for use on the dining room table; it can make itself home virtually anywhere in your house and can bring brightness and drama wherever you use it. So think of adding a touch of elegance, brightness or whimsy to your bedroom by decorating it with crystal.

Magical Lights
Of course the most predictable way to use crystal to dress any room for a huge impact is to hang a beautiful chandelier glistening with radiant crystals in the middle of any ceiling. Available in virtually any style or color this single fixture can define any room large or small. Whether it is a young girl’s room, an elegant master suite or an Old Hollywood boudoir a crystal chandelier provides an instant focal point.

Now for a word about the practical side of decorating: Any design project that you do is nothing if it is not safe. A chandelier falling out of the ceiling and crashing to the floor can do a huge amount of damage not only to your property but also to whomever has the misfortune of standing under it. Because of the shear weight of a crystal chandelier, this is a project where it is probably worth the expense of hiring an electrician to make sure that the fixture is properly braced and wired.

The Finishing Touch
If you do not want to do crystal on such a large scale, you can simply display a fine crystal collection to add a little sparkle to your room. Animal figures, vintage perfume bottles, vases and candy dishes can all be picked up at flea markets for very affordable prices. Any collection, regardless of its subject, can be displayed to add just a touch of elegance to your bedroom.

Another way to accessorize and add a little sparkle to your bedroom is to simply hang a few strands of crystal throughout your room. You can sew them to a seam in your curtains, or add a crystal pull for your ceiling fan. Adding this touch of sparkle to your bedroom is like adding simple diamond earrings to your little black dress. It is simply breathtaking.
