Creating a Sport Theme Bedroom
By Jessica Stockton
When designing a room for your kids, it is a great and fun idea to design their bedrooms around a specific theme. In this way, they will feel that the bedroom is made with them in mind. It is also a great way to involve them in the project by asking them what theme they prefer. A girl’s room may be a Princess themed room or a pony room while a boy’s room can be a space room or a sports themed bedroom. If your kid loves sports, then a sport theme bedroom is the perfect choice for him. Creating a sports theme bedroom or any themed bedroom for that matter does not require a large expenditure of money. A little creativity and a lot of planning are the two most important factors to consider when creating any themed bedroom. The first step to transforming your child’s bedroom in a sports-theme bedroom is to change the color of the room. Consider painting the room in the team colors of your child’s favorite team sport. If there is no specific sport or team that your child prefers, then bold primary colors is the way to go. Once the wall painting is done, you can fill in those empty walls with several options. You can display any medals or trophies that your child has. Create shadow boxes to house these trophies. Sports wall art, posters, and murals are just a few creative ideas that will add color and interest to blank wall. You can also display sport equipments like a baseball bat, basketball, or a collection of baseball mittens. You may also create your own sports wall art by creating a collage of memorabilia cards. Affix them to poster board and then frame it. Or use sports equipment to create a focal point: Hang a grouping of hockey sticks above a bed or make an arrangement with a cluster of vintage tennis rackets. For a creative take on a sports themed bedroom, make a bed or cabinet with a sports theme. You can build a bed that looks like a sports car or a cabinet that is built like lockers. Accessorize the room with sports themed items. Bed covers, linens, pillowcases with sports designs are a great way to change a room without too much effort. Place some stuffed toys or ball-shaped pillows on the bed. Hang hats from different sports team to turn a collection into an interesting wall décor. You can also frame and hang up old or vintage uniforms as a way to display and preserve them. A simple and inexpensive way to accessorize the room is to place sports books and magazines in the bookshelves or on top of the nightstand. The best approach to create a sports themed bedroom is to create a plan. You may also want to research and visit a sports arena or museum to give you some ideas that you can apply to your son’s bedroom.
