Coordinating your Decor with Neon Blue

Neon blue is a fun and exciting color that can add lots of pizzazz to casual entertaining spaces like games rooms of media rooms. However, whether you choose to paint the walls neon blue or use neon blue as an accent color, it can be challenging to find other colors that coordinate well with this bold hue. And while every color won’t work, there are several colors that are just perfect with neon blue. The Grounding Nature of Black
Black is the great neutralizer and it has a pleasing grounding effect when used with neon blue. While it lets neon blue “pop”, it offers a neutral counterpoint and contrast that exposes the spectrum of undertones in neon blue. Mixing the two side by side is the way to go: Try neon blue pillows on a black leather sofa or black framed wall art on neon walls. Fabrics, art, wall decor, area rugs or lamps and shades that combine both colors weave a common color thread throughout the space. The Bold Contrast of White
Stark white lets neon blue move boldly forward in your field of vision and create a very vibrant modern vibe. Try a white faux fur rug with a neon blue table and white accessories on the table. Or, place a set of neon blue glasses and a beverage pitcher on a silver tray set on a white bar. A little bit of silver and chrome adds a defining outline to the decor. Arrange a trio of neon blue pillows on a white leather couch and flank it with glass topped side tables with chrome legs for a look light, bright and oh so contemporary. Accenting with Silver
Bright shiny silver and chrome are perfect accents with neon blue, no matter what other colors are used in the room. They offer a sleek, contemporary finish when used in wall art, frames, tables, lamps and accessories. For those who want a bold but striking look, use silver wall paper in a room with neon furnishings and accents. Accenting with Other Neons
Using other neon colors, like neon yellow, red and orange, guarantee a vivacious look when mixed with neon blue. To keep from overwhelming the space, use lots of white to neutralize the palette and use neon colors as accents. For instance, white walls and white furniture can be accented with solid neon blue pillows and a multi-neon colored glass bowl on a white coffee table. Mixed neon color pendant lights are a great way to maintain this color motif in lighting choices, then add black and white pictures on the wall edged in a variety of neon colored frames. Expressing your Personality
You can combine colors and patterns to great affect. For instance black and white together create a contemporary backdrop for neon blue accents; black and white checks or stripes add another energetic element to the mix. Or combine neon blue with neon orange (its complementary hue on the color wheel); then use white liberally and accent with chrome. Just remember not to overdo it: Fun neon colors have a very strong presence and white or black provide stark backdrops that create a lot of energy.
