Choose a Style That Fits Your Home
By Jessica Stockton
The joy of having your own place is the fun of decorating it. You can either hire an interior decorator to do it or you can do it by yourself. Decorating your own place brings a certain satisfaction and accomplishment. Also, you are given free-hand to make your own design decisions. There are four common basic themes that you can choose from – contemporary, traditional, informal and informal. Contemporary is characterized by clean and modern lines. It brings current styles, decorations and home accessories into play. Contemporary styled homes are also very welcoming to metal art. Since contemporary style is very clean, it often focuses on shades of neutral colors, such as a palette of white, black and beige. Another popular style is traditional. Traditional design incorporates classic designs and instills a sense of order, calm and peace. It connotes a cozy and warm environment which is great for entertaining as well as relaxing. The traditional style provides a welcoming feeling that one needs after a day full of stress. A traditional style or design incorporates a neutral colored background with splashes of color introduced through accessories and fabrics. Wood furnishings are also a common factor found in traditional design, as well as classic accents in brass, crystal, nickel and glass. You can also choose to have an informal design in your home. This type of style is now commonly found among new and younger homeowners since it brings a lot of comfort to a space. They also prefer this style because they sometimes find the contemporary style to be to restrained and stiff. On the other hand, a traditional style may be too vintage or old for some. An informal style basically refers to a mix of furniture and accessories that are appealing to the homeowner. Informal style make use of a lot of comfortable furniture. Splashes of colors as well as throws and rugs may be found in an informal styled home. Like traditional style, wood furniture may also be used but is updated with big, comfortable pillows. If you find the informal style to be too chaotic, then you may choose a more formal style which is a direct contrast to informal style. Formal style incorporates symmetry and balance throughout living spaces. Renaissance and Victorian motifs are examples of styles that can be expressed through formal design. Ultimately, design is about what appeals to you and what makes you feel at home and at peace. You can to stick to one specific style or you may opt to mix one or two together to create a signature look. No matter what you style design you choose it is important to remember to choose a design that appeals to you.
