A Cheerful Rainbow Theme for Baby’s Nursery

If there is any room in the house that is bright and cheerful, it should be the nursery. While there are many themes to choose from, a rainbow theme is by it very nature, colorful and uplifting – just perfect for a nursery! A rainbow theme is also easy to pull off; even if you live in an apartment and are forbidden from painting the walls, there are lots of ways to add color and cheerfulness with rainbow theme fabrics and decor. A rainbow theme will also be appropriate from newborn days right through toddler years, so it won’t soon need to be replaced.
Here are some ideas to help you develop a rainbow theme for a nursery. Fabrics in All the Colors of the Rainbow
Especially when you can’t – or don’t want to – paint the walls, fabric can be your very best friend. Cheerful, colorful fabrics in the shape of rainbows will make even the dreariest nursery room brighter and more exciting. Use rainbow theme fabric for window curtains, crib bedding and skirt, nursing pillows, receiving blankets and chair pads. If you can’t find nursery bedding in a rainbow theme, you can trim a solid color blanket in rainbow patterned fabric. You can also use rainbow patterned fabric and accents on the changing table pad, a lampshade, diaper holder and nearly any useful nursery item. Of course, you don’t want rainbows everywhere, but letting them pop up here and there makes for a joyful, multi-colored accent that carries the eye throughout the room. You can also pick a color from the rainbow pattern and repeat it as a solid color in some of the nursery items mentioned above. Since rainbows are multi-colored they make the perfect foil for white or beige walls that are typically found in apartments and rental homes. If you can paint the walls, you may still opt for white or a light neutral tone so that the colors in the rainbows can add a pop of accent color. Or you can paint the walls is a fresh pastel color that lets the rainbow pattern shine. Other Rainbow Accents and Accessories
You can repeat rainbow accents right on the walls and not have to even think about lifting a paint brush. Use rainbow theme wall decals instead! You can find them in craft and decor stores and also from online retailers. Position a larger one above the crib or press a few on a mirror or closet door. The great thing about decals is that you can move them around as you please and they are easy to remove without damaging the wall, so they are perfectly appropriate for rental situations. You can also add colorful rainbow wall art to the room, a rainbow mobile and items like clocks, tissue boxes and storage pieces that have rainbow accents. Of course, you can also choose solid colored versions of any accessories to mix and match or embellish them with rainbow decals. You may even find a nightlight or music box with a rainbow motif for the finishing touch. |
