A Bed that Fits Both You and the Room
By Brenda Reeves
Having a comfortable bed ensures a good night's sleep, and that is important to all aspects of your life. It is important to have a bed that is big enough for you to get comfortable and settle in for a good night's sleep; and if you share a bed, then it is important for your partner to be able to do the same thing. The bed also has to fit within the parameters of your room and your first step is to take accurate measurements of the room. Of course you do not want your bed to take up all of the floor space, because you will want to have room for a dresser and bedside tables. If your bed is too large for the room, it will actually make your room feel smaller, so there is a fine line between getting a bed that is large enough for comfort and one that is in proportion to the room. You can find box springs and bed frames to match any size mattress, and the six most common sizes of mattresses are as follows: Twin Size Mattress Extra-long Twin Size Mattress (also known as California Twin) Full Size Mattress Queen Size Mattress (California Queen in some areas and/or brands) King Size Mattress California King Size Mattress (longer and narrower than a standard King) As you or you and your partner are considering the best bed for your bedroom, always consider the dimensions of the new bed as well as firmness, support and comfort. This means that you have to be practical as you balance your desired bed size against the size of the room. If you have a smaller room, you may opt for a queen size bed instead of a king size. You will have enough floor space remaining for other furniture pieces without feeling overcrowded, and your bed will still be comfortable. If you sleep alone, there is still nothing wrong with selecting a queen size bed for the ultimate in sleeping comfort. If you already own a lot of bed linen, you may want to take that into consideration when you are in the market for a new bed. If that size of bed is big enough for comfort and small enough to work well in the room, then you can save yourself the hassle of restocking your linen closet by finding a mattress that fits the bed linen you already have. However, at the end of the day, if you have bed linen for a size of bed that will simply not work for you or the room, then you do not want to lock yourself into a mattress selection that does not work simply because you own some bed linen. Not only do comfort and scale factor into your mattress size selection, but budget factors in as well. Generally the larger the mattress, the larger the price tag, and this correlation is generally true for bed linen too. So as you are making your selection, buy the best mattress that you can for the size of your room and your budget.
